‘Disgusting’: Whitney Heard slams Johnny Depp MTV VMA appearance

Johnny Depp’s bizarre appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards has fired up his former sister-in-law.

Johnny Depp makes strange surprise appearance at VMAs

The decision to include Johnny Depp in the MTV Video Music Awards has been slammed by the controversial actor’s former sister-in-law.

Whitney Heard, the sister of Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard, has criticised the Awards show, calling it the “#DVMAs” in a social media post.

Ms Heard shared a post on her Instagram story: “@MTV you’re disgusting and clearly desperate! I really hope that none of the people that made this call have daughters”.

The post featured doctored VMA branding, renaming it the DVMAs, alongside an image of the Aquaman star.

The 34-year-old used the hashtag “#DVMAs” and “IstandwithAmberHeard” in the post, in defence of her sister who lost a defamation case to Depp.

Ms Heard’s outburst was in response to Depp’s bizarre blink-and-you’ll-miss appearance at the opening of Sunday’s (local time) MTV VMAs.

As rumoured ahead of the awards in New Jersey, Depp appeared as the VMAs’ Moonman mascot, floating above the stage in a space suit with a grin on his face.

The prerecorded segment was Depp’s first TV appearance since the defamation trial.

“I just want you guys to know that I’m available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes, any old thing you need,” Depp could be heard saying in a voice over.

Whitney Heard was not alone in her criticism, with many others taking to social media to air their disappointment.

“As this messed up culture celebrates and cheers for the abuser at the #VMAs [Moonman emoji], I stand with the survivor who suffered at his hands. I believe her story, I heard the truth, #IStandWithAmberHeard! #DVMAs,” one person tweeted.

Another tweeted: “The #vmas [Moonman emoji] protect and platforms men accused of abuse”.

Meanwhile others have sided with Depp.

“The world watched a 6 wk (sic) long trial, during which extensive independent evidence was presented to the court. ALL (sic) the independent evidence corroborated Depp’s account that Heard lied. Why doesn’t Whitney Heard address that fact, rather than resorting to desperate PR posts on IG?,” one person tweeted.

“Johnny Depp rightly won. Amber Heard rightly lost. Whitney Heard, who is disgusting and clearly desperate, can p*** off,” another tweeted.

After his scandalous defamation court battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp is on a mission to rehabilitate his reputation and career.

Dior recently announced they have renewed their deal with the actor to be the face of their Sauvage men’s fragrance brand.

His return to the MTV awards stage was supported online by fans posting with a #JohnnyDeppRisesMTV hashtag.

The Aquaman actor was ordered to pay $US15 million ($A20 million) – $A13.8 million in compensation and $A6.9 million in punitive damages, minus the $A2.7 million he was ordered to pay her.

But the 36-year-old is reportedly broke and can’t afford to pay back Depp. Her legal team is considering an appeal.
