“Flesh is best” appears to have been the over-arching stylist guide for the pop glitterati hoping to at least claim red carpet notoriety if they can’t bag one of the Moonman trophies.

Seatbelts, or bondage-inspired attire, have also been a regular feature at the VMAs; Cher rocked one of her iconic Bob Mackie outfits in 2010 and 2015 host Miley Cyrus sported strategically placed straps across her chest for one of her many costumes that year.
Pink, husband Carey Hart and daughter Willow all rocked classic three-piece suits when the What About Us superstar was that year’s recipient of the Vanguard Award for pop legends.
But it’s not all about the ladies on the red carpet. Prince paved the way for Harry Styles’ jump-suit statements when he rocked a ruby-red one-piece at the 1991 awards Lil Nas X stole the show last year with his half-dress, half-suit lilac Versace creation.
