IT’S been nearly 10 years since Heath Ledger’s shock death, but footage of the beloved Aussie’s cheeky grin is still guaranteed to bring on some bittersweet emotions.
And there’ll be plenty of that now that a documentary about him is nearing its premiere date.
The first trailer for I Am Heath Ledger has just been released, offering a candid view of Ledger, captured through home videos.
The body of the 28-year-old Dark Knight actor was found in his Manhattan apartment in January 2008, with his death later ruled as “acute intoxication”, as a result of an accidental overdose of painkillers and sedatives.
The documentary is certain to offer a fresh insight into the true character of Ledger, who as filmmaker Matt Amato explains in the trailer, “wanted fame — and then when he got it, he didn’t want it.”
It also includes interviews with his sister, Kate Ledger, musician Ben Harper, actor Ben Mendehlson, and Brokeback Mountain director Ang Lee.
The 90-minute film will premiere next month.
