Australian supermodel Jess Hart has revealed she is a rubber-burning revhead at heart and that pulling out of life in the fast lane to follow her passion for racing cars changed her life.

LA-based Hart gave birth to her first child, Baby-Rae, with her partner, US racing car driver James Kirkham, four months ago.

“My baby is Baby,” she said of her daughter’s unique name which was inspired by the film Dirty Dancing.

“She is going to hear ‘Nobody puts Baby in a corner,’ a million times and not know what people are going on about.

“I have always loved the name from the movie. I can’t remember how old I was when I first saw the film but I was obsessed from then.

“She is Baby.”

The avowed revhead, who quit drinking in 2018, said her life fell into place once she stopped worrying about what others thought and embraced her roots.

“I was off track for a little bit of my life and my modelling had been fantastic and got me to where I am today, but my true passion has always been around cars,” she said.

“Getting back to my roots, being who I was and giving up worrying about what other people thought and wanting anything, when I did that of course everything falls into your lap.

“I was like, ‘I don’t care what people think, I am going to go and race cars,” and I signed up for racing courses. The minute I gave into that side of me everything followed.”

Hart’s passion for hot cars led her to meeting Kirkham in 2018 when her nephew asked her to drive a rare Mercedes.

“I turned up and of course the car belongs to James,” she said.

“We were in Santa Monica and we were going out to Malibu for dinner so it was a long drive.

“It is almost like our first date was in that car on the way to dinner.

“He is so sweet and so lovely, I have never met a human like him. He is really, really special.”

Hart has joined forces with Hot Wheels to judge the Australian leg of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour.

The Hot Wheels Legends Tour allows car enthusiasts across Australia to compete with 16 other countries for the chance to have their car immortalised as a 1:64 Hot Wheels diecast model.

Australian submissions for The Hot Wheels Legends Tour are open at www.HotWheels.com/Legends.

Hart said next year she planned to enter the Legends Tour.

“I know there are so many Australians like me that are real car enthusiasts and grew up loving Pimp My Ride,” she said.

“There are so many people out there who have sick cars and I can’t wait to see them.

“We just bought a 1977 Mercedes to do up and it is going to be a cool, luxury low-rider that the whole family can be in.”

Hart said she hoped to be back in Melbourne in November.

“James’s company has just signed a contract with F1 to be their content creators,” she said.

“He has to be in Australia for the Australian F1 in November so I think that will be my next trip home.”
