Miranda Kerr has opened up about the death of her beloved grandmother and the pain of missing her funeral due to Covid-19.
While the pandemic meant the Australian supermodel was able to spend more time with her husband, Snapchat chief executive Evan Spiegel, she will always think of it as the time both her grandmother and grandfather died.
“Basically, my grandparents raised me,’’ Kerr told Marie Claire magazine.
“My parents were really young when they had me, so they were always working.”
Kerr’s grandfather passed away following a battle with cancer in February this year, however it was her grandmother’s death shortly after which came as a complete shock to Kerr and her family.
“We knew my grandpa was sick but it was a surprise when my grandma died 20 days later of a broken heart,” Kerr said.
While Kerr and her family flew to Australia for Christmas in 2020 to visit her grandparents, they were sadly unable to attend her grandmother’s funeral in person because of Covid travel restrictions.
Kerr, who shares 10-year-old Flynn with ex-husband Orlando Bloom, and Myles, 2, and Hart, 3, with Spiegel, said it was her grandparents who influenced her positive relationship with Bloom and his new partner Katy Perry and their young baby Daisy Dove.
“My grandmother had what I call generosity of spirit,” Kerr said. “She’d always be welcoming people with a cup of tea or cutting up fresh fruit for everyone. Everybody was always welcome.”
As for whether any more kids are on the cards, Kerr said: “It’s definitely something my husband thinks about. But personally, I’ve always wanted to have three boys in particular.
“I love that I have three healthy boys — and happy boys. And I feel very blessed.
“But who knows what the future will hold?”
