KIIS FM shock jock Kyle Sandilands has opened up about a distressing childhood moment that involved his “drunk” father and another woman.

The 46-year-old gave an insight yesterday about his late Brisbane-based dad, Peter, who died of liver and bowel cancer last March, and mother Pam’s marriage breakdown.

“When my dad was married to my mother — one day he came home because he was a drunk back in the early days,” he said.

“He brought another woman home and sent my mum to the bedroom and another woman sat down and ate dinner with us.

“This other woman I had never met before sat down at the dinner table and we all ate dinner like a family while my mum was crying in the bedroom.”

Sandilands’ co-host Jackie O responded: “Oh my God your family was really dysfunctional” before he quipped, “After all this time you’ve just realised?”

In an interview with Anh Do last October, Sandilands revealed how he was kicked out of home and lived on the streets at age 15.

He said he became a “real street rat”, living behind a Queensland supermarket and then in a horse float at a petrol station, where by night he listened to the night time broadcasters over speakers above the bowers and “fell in love with radio”.

“Every morning there would be creates of bread delivered, crates of milk in the loading dock out the back, so I’d take a loaf of bread and a carton of milk and eat that dry bread,” he said at the time.

“Still to this day I’ll guzzle milk out the carton and take three or four slices of dry bread and munch on that.”
