Controversial radio host Kyle Sandilands brought his show to a screeching halt by making a shocking announcement this morning.
It was business as usual for radio duo Jackie O and Sandilands on their show when he dramatically declared that he had a “special announcement”.
“I need to come clean, and enough is enough,” Sandilands proclaimed.
Jackie O sounded genuinely bewildered.
“Are you proud of what you’re about to say?” she asked.
Sandilands said yes, before adding: “I’m coming out, everyone!”
He took a deep breath and said, “Yes, I am a feminist. That is true, I love women, and I stand up for women. I am a man’s woman, a woman’s man.
“I do stand up for women! And when I go down on a woman, it is the best time of their life!”
“That’s not what that means,” Jackie O responded.
Sandilands wasn’t listening, though, and immediately started playing the feminist anthem I Am Woman by Helen Reddy.
Sandilands’ admission comes after he spoke with news.com.au on Friday about why he still didn’t identify as a feminist.
“Because you sound like you’re wearing a brown knitted jumper and hanging out in Newtown,” he joked.
However, Sandilands had apparently changed his mind by Monday morning, and while the announcement might seem shocking, it is worth remembering that Sandilands made the ultimate feminist move in the past.
Way back in the early 2000s, when pay parity wasn’t the loud conversation it is today, he found out his new co-host Jackie O was getting paid less than him, and it enraged him so much he offered to take a pay cut him so they’d be paid the same.
Sandilands’ stand ended with Jackie O getting equal pay.
Still, don’t think Sandilands has completely changed. He then launched into a story about having sex with his partner Tegan Kynaston, eloquently saying that he “smashed” her.
So, while he might be evolving, I don’t think you could accuse Sandilands of changing.
