Karl Stefanovic squirms as he reveals Easter plans on-air: ‘What could go wrong?’

Karl Stefanovic was left red-faced on Today this morning after innocently revealing his Easter plans – and the irony was not lost on his colleagues.

Karl Stefanovic wasn’t quite expecting such an awkward reaction to revealing his Easter plans on-air this morning.

The Today co-host was interviewing Tourism & Transport CEO Margy Osmond on Thursday’s Nine program, when Osmond asked what he was doing for the long weekend.

“Going to Noosa,” Stefanovic said.

The comment prompted a coy smile from Osmond, who cheekily asked, “What could go wrong?” – in obvious reference to Stefanovic’s infamous Noosa park brawl with former Test cricket captain Michael Clarke in January.

Stefanovic, 48, was initially left speechless as Osmond broke into giggles, simply responding, “Fair point”.

Meanwhile, the camera flashed to co-host Sarah Abo who was concealing her own chuckles with paperwork.

“Oh, yes. What could go wrong, Karl?” Abo said.

Abo was also giggling over the awkward encounter.

In a news story that will go down in Australian tabloid folklore, mobile phone video captured Clarke, 42, arguing with his then-girlfriend Jade Yarbrough in a park in Noosa over the Christmas holidays, as she accused him of cheating on her with his ex-partner, activewear mogul Pip Edwards.

Stefanovic, who is married to Yarbrough’s sister Jasmine, was also in the park, with Clarke captured on the video yelling at “Karlos”, calling him a “c**t”.

“Karlos, I can tell you now c**t, don’t you f***ing look away. She can, she can punch me, but you, you c**t …” Clarke was heard saying to the TV personality.

In the footage, which emerged mid-January, Clarke could also be seen limping after he injured his hamstring in the scuffle.

Stefanovic, who had been friends with Clarke for years and was reported to have introduced him to Yarbrough last year, still hasn’t commented on the incident publicly.

Clarke told The Daily Telegraph at the time that he was disappointed by his behaviour.

“I accept full responsibility for this altercation and am shattered by my actions,” he said. “I’m absolutely gutted I’ve put people I hold in the highest regard in this position. My actions in the lead-up to this altercation were nothing short of shameful and regrettable. I am shattered that because of my actions I’ve drawn women of class and integrity, and my mates, into this situation.”

Clarke and Yarbrough were fined for public nuisance by Queensland Police after officers investigated the footage.
