Canadian pop star Tate McRae made a surprise appearance in Sydney on Tuesday, giving fans a sneak preview of her unreleased music.
Hundreds of Aussie fans flocked to the Entertainment Quarter after McRae took to Instagram on Monday inviting fans to join her at 3pm Tuesday for an “unexpected event” at the rooftop car park.
Lines snaked across the venue, with some waiting more than five hours to secure a prime spot.
Some skipped school, others drove for hours for their taste of Tate.
The singer made a grand entrance about 3.40pm, driving into the car park standing in the back of a ute, surrounded by a few of her friends.
With the crowd roaring, the 21-year-old treated fans to three exclusive, as-yet-unreleased tracks from her upcoming album.
The singer did not sing live, instead playing a series of 30-second clips of her songs 2 Hands, Dear God and Green Light from her phone into a microphone — perhaps conserving her voice ahead of her sold-out Sydney performances.
“Australia’s one of my favourite places to be, so I thought I would play some of my new music … I get really scared showing people new stuff,” she told the audience.
Given several drones were flying over the action, there is suspicion the singer was filming a music video.
McRae who is dating Aussie star singer The Kid Laroi is currently in Sydney for her Aussie tour and will be playing two sold-out shows at The Hordern Pavilion on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
