Heartbreak High star Ayesha Madon has proved she’s just as cool off screen after stepping out in a risque see-through gown for Melbourne Fashion Week.

Madon, who plays the lead Amerie in the Netflix reboot set 20 years on from the original hit series Heartbreak High, said she was all about ‘free the nipple’ as she attended Tuesday night’s Dockside Runway alongside other trendy cast.

“I would say my fashion sense is what I feel comfortable wearing, I dress for my mood,’’ she said.

“I’m getting Instagram messages and some were like sexualising it and saying it’s provocative. It’s two nipples and we all have them. It’s not really a thing for me, we all have nipples. I’m definitely pro free the nipple.”

Madon wore a sheer and whimsically colourful Erik Yvon dress – whose bright and bold designs featured on the runway — styled by Victoria Knowles.

The Heartbreak High crew flaunted their own personal styles with uber-trendy outfits, Y2K inspired sunnies and all-round cool vibes.

The shows reboot has stolen the hearts of viewers around the world with its diverse cast, honest representation of teen sexuality and, of course, 90s and naughties inspired fashion.

“I’m very excited to be wearing his work. He’s amazing,” Madon said of Yvon.

“I’m so proud to see Australian designers just killing it.”

Melbourne-born James Majoos, who arguably plays one of Heartbreak High’s most fashionable characters Darren, turned heads in a cream Chris Ran Lin jacket paired with an aviator-style shearling hat — perfect for battling Melbourne’s cold spells.

“I’m from Melbourne and I feel like self-expression is like, we’re the city for that, and I feel like Chris’s stuff is so eclectic and cozy and given the weather I feel like it’s really appropriate,” Majoos said.

Co-stars Asher Yasbincek (Harper) and Brodie Townsend (Ant) also opted for pieces by the Melbourne-based independent designer; Yasbincek donning a deliciously cosy oversized sweater and Townsend in a divine brown knit which showed off his abs.

“Chris wanted me to go with this. I was, like, very nervous. It feels like my full body’s out but it’s a vibe and his vision,” Townsend said.

Gemma Trua-Chan (Sasha), who only recently moved to Melbourne, was a vision in a black Sabatucci corset top and oversized bow, which she paired with a thrifted floral dress from second-hand clothing store Swop.

“I mean, I feel like I’m very new to the whole fashion week thing, so I’m just excited to be here,” Trua-Chan said.

“It’s a new city. I’m excited to explore.”

Trua-Chan also paid a subtle ode to the colour of the season, and her on-screen alter-ego’s iconic hair, her grown-out Barbie-pink locks providing a pop of colour against her black and white Sabatucci fit.

Bright colours were all the rage on the runway, from hot pink tights to lime green Crocs.

Set against a city skyline backdrop in a transformed shed under the Bolte Bridge, Y2K maximalism, 90s silhouettes and slow-fashion dominated the Dockside Runway.

Fashion lovers were left mesmerised as models strutted across the shed floor surrounded by billowing smoke, while Heartbreak High fans were eager to catch a glimpse of the oh-so-cool rising stars seated in the front row.
