Netflix reboot of Heartbreak High to return for a second season

The sexually-charged, reimagined Australian high school drama is set for a second season return after drawing in millions of Netflix viewers from around the world.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, however Sunday Confidential can reveal Heartbreak High is preparing for a second season.

While it hasn’t been announced yet, the decision is a no-brainer for Netflix execs, with the sexually-charged, reimagined Australian High School drama hitting No.6 on the list of most watched TV shows globally on Netflix.

In fact, it racked up 18,250,000 hours views in just the last week alone.

And the series is currently ranked in the top 10 most watched shows on Netflix in 43 countries around the world, including the US and Europe as well as Africa, Asia and of course, Australia.

It’s a massive deal for the cast and crew of the homegrown series, with it being many of the main cast members’ first acting gig.

The eight-episode series was inspired by the original ’90s series, but has been reimagined for a new, younger generation, executively produced by Chris Oliver Taylor and Carly Heaton, and starring model Josh Heuston.

The original series ran for seven seasons on Network 10 and then the ABC for a total of 210 episodes.

It ran from 1994 until 1999 and helped launch the career of Aussie actors Alex Dimitriades, Ada Nicodemou, Scott Major, Emma Roche, Callan Mulvey, Salvatore Coco and Lara Cox.
