How do you get gamers, die hard anime fans, TV and movie lovers and BookTok girlies to go outside to touch grass? Have Supanova run on the weekend.
That’s right, it’s that time of year again when one of Australia’s biggest conventions for all your pop culture needs descends into Sydney across two days.
Since it was first launched in Sydney back in 2002, Supanova has expanded to Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and the Gold Coast.
And according to Supanova’s founder and CEO, Daniel Zachariou, it’s a two-city race for who brings in the most crowds.
“Sydney started as the biggest but was overtaken by Brisbane for a few years,” Mr Zahariou said.
“Then Sydney came up over the top of them for the last few years before Brisbane jumped to the lead again last year. But we feel this year is going to be a special one for Sydney again so we firmly believe it’ll will win back the crown again.”
The headlining guests this year include Marvel’s Evangeline Lilly, Outlander’s Sam Heughan, Alex Kingston from Doctor Who, Home and Away’s Lincoln Lewis and the core members of Critical Role.
But if you’re not into sitting in on Q and A sessions, Mr Zachariou assures there’s something for everyone.
“Aside from exciting new additions like the Audible Secret Library escape room, there’s also Nintendo featuring their just released Switch 2 including some games that have yet to be released,” he said.
“There’s a massive Let’s Play gaming section, a massive E-sports section as well as the awesome Superman Cosplay Competition to go along with our regular Cosplay Competitions.”
