Model Simone Holtznagel speaks out about social media nastiness

She’s long dealt with online trolls herself, but model Simone Holtznagel fears the day her baby daughter has to deal with ‘terrible and brutal’ social media.

Top Aussie model Simone Holtznagel fears for her baby girl in a world where social media increasingly rules the roost.

Holtznagel, 31, is mum to one-year-old daughter Gia.

“I definitely worry about social media with Gia, not right now but when she goes to school and gets older,” Holtznagel said.

“It is already terrible and brutal so who knows what it is going to be like by then.”

Like many in the public eye, Holtznagel has suffered her share of online bullying, but is not afraid of speaking up as she knows others don’t have the ability to do so.

“You can’t win,” Holtznagel, said. “People feel they have permission to tell you exactly what they are thinking and when, without fear of any repercussions or worrying about hurting your feelings because to them you are just a picture on social media.

“The truth is, it really hurts and people are brutal to the point of nasty and vicious with no consequences.”

“I try not to let it get to me, but sometimes it does, you can’t help that, and while I know it comes with the territory, we need to speak up so people realise what it means.”

Holtznagel rose to fame as a teenage model and went on to become one of our most recognisable faces here and abroad, including shooting 10 campaigns for Guess Jeans globally.

And she has appeared on reality television shows like I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! and SAS Australia,

“(Social media) is only getting worse ... that is scary because not everyone is equipped to deal with that, “ Holtznagel said

“ I usually don’t care about that stuff and don’t let it get to me but I do worry about younger girls in particular as they are much more vulnerable.”
