Big race in a minute – The Golden Eagle 2024

Sydney racegoers are in for a treat this Saturday as they prepare to arrive in style for Australia’s second-richest race, the Golden Eagle at Rosehill Gardens.

West is best as racegoers are urged to catch a complimentary ferry on the Parramatta River.

With ferries scheduled to depart every 20 minutes, the ride sets the perfect tone for a day of thrilling races and celebration.

Labor MP for Parramatta Donna Davis said, “There’s nothing more quintessentially Sydney than travelling by ferry, and the run down the Parramatta River is up there with the best!

Passengers can take in the sights of our industrial heritage on Cockatoo Island, admire our brilliant harbourside parks and everything Sydney can offer.”

Racegoers will get off at Parramatta wharf and board buses to |Rosehill. There will also be additional shuttle ferries between Sydney Olympic Park and Rydalmere, so racegoers can ditch their cars and cruise into the races in style.

Roosters and NSW fullback James Tedesco is looking forward to returning to the west and having a punt with mates on the day.

“I grew up out west, so I haven’t been there in a while but I’m really looking forward to it.

“It will be a great atmosphere and the special race donates 10 per cent to charities which is a great initiative as well,” Tedesco told The Daily Telegraph.

“I’m most excited for the atmosphere. Everyone’s having a good time, having a little party and I just like the social part of it to be honest.

“It’s why I’m taking my mates along, as it’s a good chance for us to catch a few drinks and have a little bet — nothing too big.

“The Golden Eagle itself is a massive race so I’m really looking forward to that and seeing if I can pick the winners.”

TV host and former Miss World Australia Erin Holland will show off her singing chops by delivering the national anthem.

“I think we are seeing lots of really cool structured dresses this season.

“Metallics and sparkles are back in which I love and it’s perfect for a touch of gold for Golden Eagle,” she said.

“Randwick often gets all the attention but West is best, Rosehill Gardens is such a stunning ground. It’s going to be awesome.

“A million dollars is also donated to a charity of choice of whoever wins the next season as well so that’s a wonderful way to give back.”

The day promises to be a vibrant festival of food, showcasing a wide array of options throughout the racecourse including eats in the Garden area located behind the Members Stand, the Grand Pavilion, and the expansive Exhibition Lawn as well as food trucks.

In addition to the mouth-watering fare, racegoers can end the night on a high as internationally acclaimed DJ and music producer Alex K takes the stage to deliver his After the Last set.
