Chris Hemsworth’s new sci-fi thriller Spiderhead and the latest Thor instalment are set to premiere soon — but the home-grown hunk still has two more major films in production in Australia.

They are calling it Hemsworth Studios — the Aussie action man has become almost a one-man movie-making machine.

Hemsworth was in Sydney on Saturday night for the red carpet premiere of his sci-fi thriller Spiderhead, and there are two more major films of his in production in Australia.

This comes after the recent launch of his wife Elsa Pataky’s Netflix action film, Interceptor, thriller Poker Face and musical drama film Carmen on the way.

When Hemsworth launched his production company, Wild State Productions, a few years ago, he had the aim of harnessing the film community Down Under and beyond, and wanted to focus on making films in his home country.

He was instrumental in bringing Thor 3 and 4, Extraction 1 and 2, Spiderhead and Interceptor.

On the red carpet on Saturday night Hemsworth, who directed and stars in Spiderhead, said the film was “appealing to me on lot of different levels”.

“The conversation of free will and are we better left to our own devices or is it better that someone else intervenes and saves us from ourselves,” he said.

“It’s an age-old debate which comes up in sci-fi films. Then the character is very different to anything I’ve ever played before, so it was a good opportunity to explore different spaces of my own personality.”

Hemsworth was also fundamental in bringing to Australia The National Geographic documentary due to come out at the end of the year.

“Production company aside, my focus ever since I had any sway was to shoot here in Australia due to, on a personal level, being at home with my family, but also because of the awareness that I had about what was possible here when it comes to the talent, the cast, the crew and the locations,” Hemsworth told The Sunday Telegraph.

The father-of-three said it was no surprise Australia had become a hot spot for A-list productions.

“The abundance of talent we have here, the cast and crew, is second to none, and then there’s the diversity of the landscape,” he said.

“We can go from the Whitsundays for that tropical style of film and then we can jump into an urban landscape and shoot at one of our major cities, or we can shoot out in the middle of the desert somewhere.”

Hemsworth will also star as the lead in the upcoming Hulk Hogan biopic.

With his wife back at work and Hemsworth busier than ever, the heart-throb agrees that “life is sweet”.

“It is great and I couldn’t be happier,” he said.

“I feel so thankful to be working at all, to be working in the spaces I have been with the directors and cast I have been able to work with has been a dream.

“If you had have said or asked me 10 years ago where I would like to be, this is it.”
