Exclusive: After winning worldwide attention and a swag of awards, Colin From Accounts is bringing out the big guns for season two – including Celeste Barber.
Season two of Colin From Accounts will premiere on Binge on May 30.
And when it comes back – with a bang, quite literally – some Aussie favourites join creators, writers and stars Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer.
The Logie Award-winning husband and wife duo laugh off claims of nepotism when it came to casting but admit that 50 per cent of the cast are in their “top 20 text threads” — including Celeste Barber, who makes an appearance as Gordon’s sister-in law, Katie.
“In the case of Celeste Barber, she is just a mate,” said Dyer.
“To be honest, we didn’t ask people to tape for that — it’s not like we went: ‘We’ll take 20 tapes for Katie and then choose Celeste’ — we didn’t waste anyone’s time.”
“But all of cast from last season are back and we get to expand a little bit of their stories and parts,” continued Brammall. “We’re really excited for people to see it.”
Another new face will be Virginia Gay.
Virgina Gay – or Ginny as they lovingly refer to her as – is “phenomenal – just so, so good” gushes Dyer – as Rumi, the larger than life love interest of another character who won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, they warn.
“It’s very rare that you get to walk onto the set of your favourite show and become a part of it,” Gay said. “I love this show with all my heart and the reason that it’s so brilliant is because of the Patty-and-Harrietness of it.
“They are a joy to be around, and that joy is all over the screen.”
Then the formidable John Howard joins as Gordon’s dad, Brian, and the “so f-ing good the guy who can’t not be funny” Justin Rosniak as Gordon’s brother Alistair – and Barber’s husband.
Harri’s sister Madeleine Dyer returns to direct an episode too.
The eight-episode series is so funny they had to rewrite one scene on the spot to remove Dyer from the table as she was laughing too much and messing up every take.
“Harri just couldn’t keep it together,” laughed Brammall, speaking to The Sunday Telegraph from their LA home this week.
“Ginny’s character and my character were really at each other and Harri couldn’t handle it, so she had to invent in the scene that she leaves the table to go pay the bill because she kept laughing – we – and when I say we, I mean she – must have ruined like six or seven takes.”
The familiar new faces will join returning cast members Emma Harvie, Genevieve Hegney, Michael Logo, Helen Thomson, Darren Gilshenan, Annie Maynard and Tai Hara – and the new additions felt right at home on set.
John Howard agreed the cast had fun on set.
“The series has made so many people around the world laugh and it is a hilarious take on bouncing through love and life, warts and all,” he said.
“Well, no warts as far as I know of…”
And Justin Rosniak said Colin from Accounts was ‘the best show in Australia, hands down’ – so who wouldn’t want to be part of it?
“If you’re not laughing your head off, you’re bawling your eyes out,” he said.
“With Harri and Pat at the forefront of Australian television, our industries future has never looked so bright. It is truly an honour to be a part of this magical experience.”
In season two Ash and Gordon are now living together and trying to get their beloved, special needs dog, Colin, back from his new owners.
It’s the first in a series of hurdles for the new couple, as they find out more about each other, for better and worse.
It premieres Tuesday May 30 on Binge and on Showcase at 8.30pm.
