“Because by focusing our collective time, energy and resources on these most preventative years, we can make a huge difference to the physical and mental health and happiness of generations to come.”
KATE LAUNCHES ‘LIFE’S WORK’
It comes as the Princess of Wales, was greeted by throngs of royal fans as she launched her Shaping Us campaign during an appearance in Leeds on Tuesday local time.
During a formal launch event for the campaign on Monday night local time, the Princess of Wales described the Shaping Us program as her “life’s work”.
The 41-year-old princess was a popular visitor to Leeds Kirkgate Market to discuss the importance of the early childhood years – which is the subject of her new campaign.
The princess stepped out in an Alexander McQueen emerald coat, a pair of knee-high Gianvito Rossi boots and a cream dress.
As Princess Catherine toured the market, the mother-of-three ignored a whistle from a member of the public as she waved to crowds of adoring royal fans who had waited to catch a glimpse of her.
The Princess of Wales hopes to influence and raise awareness of how critical the first five years of a child’s life are with her passionate “Shaping Us” campaign.
She described her long-term aims for the campaign in a letter.
“The way we develop, through our experiences, relationships, and surroundings during our early childhood, fundamentally shapes our whole lives. It affects everything from our ability to form relationships and thrive at work, to our mental and physical wellbeing as adults and the way we parent our own children,” she wrote in part.
“In these difficult times, it is more important than ever to help support parents and caregivers provide loving, safe and secure homes for their babies and young children to thrive.”
The Wales share three children together — Prince George, 9, and Prince Louis, 4, and daughter Princess Charlotte, 7.
The project, which officially launched with her Leeds appearance, is a long-term project of the Princess’s, beginning with how a child develops and the importance of the formative years.
During her visit, the mother-of-three spoke with vendors who have worked at the market for over 30 years and members of the public about their reflections on the film, which made its big screen debut at a BAFTA event last night.
The Shaping Us short film highlights how babies and children develop in response to their earliest experiences.
The Princess chose to visit Leeds as part of the city’s ongoing ambition to become the best place in the UK for young people and children to grow up in.
WILLIAM’S FEARS FOR CORONATION
Meanwhile, King Charles wants Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at his coronation, but Prince William holds concerns it will turn into a “stunt”.
The monarch is expected to invite the US-based royals “because it is the right thing to do and will hopefully pave the way for peace”, according to Vanity Fair, citing a source close to the king.
But Prince William is not as forthcoming. According to the Mail on Sunday, the Prince of Wales is said to be concerned his brother will use the moment to stage a “stunt” that will spoil the historic occasion.
