Adele makes rare appearance in emotional video supporting victims of London’s Grenfell Tower disaster

Adele has given a passionate address to victims of London’s Grenfell Tower disaster to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the 2017 tragedy.

Adele has made a rare video appearance to show her support for the victims of the devastating Grenfell Tower fire, which killed 72 people in 2017.

The singer has become increasingly reclusive in the five years since the release of her last album, apart from occasional social media updates and regular headlines about her recent weight loss.

But the superstar has put out an annual online memorial video to mark the anniversaries of the Grenfell Tower fire, having been closely involved with the community since she first made a low-key appearance at a vigil in the days following the tragedy.

In a YouTube video released today, the 33-year-old singer spoke of the “unanswered questions” surrounding the June 14 inferno, which started as a small kitchen fire in the early hours of the morning and went on to engulf the entire 24-story apartment block.

While a public inquiry launched by the government is yet to reach any conclusions, the fire is believed to have been fuelled by flammable cladding on the building’s exterior.

Adele shows her support for the Grenfell United campaign group.

In the four years since the tragedy, which took place in North Kensington close to the affluent Notting Hill area, families and survivors have been campaigning for justice under the Grenfell United group, the organisation Adele shouted out in her video.

“Today marks four years since the Grenfell Tower fire, and still there are so many unanswered questions,” the Hello singer began.

“Still the trial is taking way too long, and still no one has been held accountable for that night’s events,” she said.

“And yet, Grenfell United is still out here, fighting tirelessly for the justice and for the change that not only they deserve, that their community deserve, but that the whole country deserves.”

She went on: “And for that, I’d like to thank you.

“Thank you for putting your pain aside for all of these years to fight the fight. I can’t imagine the kind of personal consequences that has on you.

“I really hope that this time next year, you will have the answers that you need to finally, finally be able to breathe together. I love you. I’ll see you soon. Stay strong. We’re all with you.”

Adele thanked the Grenfell campaigners for their strength.

Adele has spoken out in support of the Grenfell victims a number of times over the years.

Opening her June 2017 performance at London’s Wembley Stadium, she told fans in a video message that played before she took the stage: “It’s been two weeks since the fire, and still the people who were affected by it are homeless.

“I promise that the money we raise together will go directly to the people who are living in that block.”

Adele was also seen popping in to the Chelsea Fire Station to meet with firefighters who battled the blaze, and treated children who survived the horror to a special private screening of Despicable Me 3.
