Adele makes rare on-screen appearance in emotional Grenfell Tower tribute

“I miss you all.” She’s been rarely seen on-camera since releasing her last album five years ago, but Adele just gave an emotional update.

Singer Adele has made a rare on-camera appearance in aid of a cause close to her heart: to memorialise the 72 people lost in London’s horrific Grenfell tower fire three years ago.

Adele has become increasingly reclusive in the five years since the release of her last album, save for very occasional social media updates – and regular headlines about her divorce and recent weight loss.

But the superstar put her usual aversion to appearing on camera to one side to appear in a special COVID-safe online memorial video to mark the third anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire. Adele is understood to have been closely involved with the Grenfell community since she first made a low-key appearance at a vigil in the days following the fire.

“Even though we’re having to do this in the virtual world, it’s still so important for us to mourn together, and for us to remember that night, and to reflect on that. Also to celebrate the lives that were lived before they were sadly taken that night,” Adele, 32, said in the video message.

“It’s a scientific fact that human beings are pack animals, we’re not supposed to be left on our own. We need each other to survive. That is something I truly see in action with the Grenfell community. I have never been so moved, so inspired by people before. Your resilience is second to none,” she continued.

“It’s one of my proudest things to be involved with Grenfell United, and to support your fight for true justice. I’m so sad we’re not all together today. Although it’s always a very sombre event, it’s also beautiful. I miss you all, I’m thinking of you all. Stay safe.”

Adele is believed to be well underway working on the follow-up to her third album, 25, released in late 2015. She most recently made headlines last month posting a shot from her 32nd birthday celebrations to her 37 million Instagram followers, paying tribute to “all of our first responders and essential workers who are keeping us safe while risking their lives.”
