Take that, Meghan Markle!
Fellow royal, Catherine Princess of Wales can also strut her stuff on the stage.
Newly emerged video showing an 11-year-old Kate Middleton playing Eliza Doolittle in a school musical production of My Fair Lady shows the future royal has serious acting chops and a lovely singing voice.
The Princess of Wales can be seen dressed in the character’s flower seller rags, shawl, and holding a basket, singing “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” in a convincing Cockney accent and keeping perfect pitch.
Her hair pinned up in the character’s signature bun, young Catherine’s facial expressions are also endearing and earnest as she portrays the humble street girl who is transformed into a high society woman after elocution lessons from a voice coach.
Other footage of the royal shows her acting in a scene where she tries to overcome her Cockney accent.
While much is made of Meghan Markle’s Suits acting history, royal fans are constantly surprised by the Princess of Wales’ artistic abilities.
After her much-praised public piano debut on Christmas Eve 2021, and then playing the piano at Windsor Castle as part of the opening sequence film for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, Princess Catherine’s formal musical history as a pianist, chapel singer, school flautist and orchestra conductor has become more widely known.
The rags-to-riches tale is based on the George Bernard Shaw play Pygmalian, and the video of the Princess was recorded during a performance at St Andrew’s School in Pangbourne, Berkshire, a private school which Kate Middleton attended as a child in the late 1980s and early ’90s.
Filmed in 1993, the video has resurfaced on YouTube and Instagram.
It comes as Catherine, Princess of Wales’ stunning portrait of Queen Camilla, taken in 2022 in the gardens of Ray Mill House, Wiltshire, won cover of the year in the PPA Awards after it appeared on the front cover of a special royal edition of Country Life.
“We’re thrilled to announce that Country Life has won the Cover of the Year title at the PPA Awards, the ‘Oscars’ of the magazine world. The winning cover was this one from the 13 July 2022 issue, which was guest-edited by Her Majesty The Queen while she was Duchess of Cornwall,” said the post on Instagram from Country Life Magazine.
“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to all who voted — it’s the only award voted for directly by readers — and also, of course, to HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales, who took the photograph!”
