Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘devastated’ by Emmy’s snub for Netflix docu-series

The “irritated” couple are reportedly trying to shake off their disappointment at missing out on their chance at an Emmy for their explosive docu-series.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly “devastated” about missing out on an Emmy Awards nomination for their recordbreaking Netflix docu-series.

Harry & Meghan became the streaming giant’s biggest documentary debut after recording more than 81 million views in its first week, and is now its second-highest-ranked documentary of all time.

However, the explosive Liz Garbus-directed six-part series – which generated plenty of buzz through its many damning revelations about the royal family – failed to land any Emmy’s recognition when nominations were announced on Wednesday, US time.

It’s just the latest blow to the “devastated” Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who recently parted ways with Spotify amid a string of bad publicity.

However, according to the editor of Majesty magazine, Ingrid Seward, the couple is determined to hide their irritation.

“But of course [they] will not show it,” she told the UK’s Mirror, adding that they will instead emphasise their recent Hollywood Critics Awards’ nomination in the Best Streaming Nonfiction category.

“Meghan and Harry will concentrate in this and make it a positive, however irritated they might be not to be in the Emmy nominations,” Seward said.

“They are having a run of bad luck in their working life. But ironically as long as they concentrate on delivering personal stuff instead of more serious work, people will be interested.

“They have built a gilded cage of expectation around themselves from which it will be hard to escape.”

It follows recent reports that Meghan is now shifting away from collaborations with her husband amid a turbulent period for their joint brand.

There’s been plenty of speculation about what might come next for the Sussexes following the demise of their $29 million Spotify deal, doubts about the renewal of their reported $150 million Netflix contract and a flurry of scathing reviews by everyone from a streaming service executive to a top Hollywood agent to Rolling Stone.

The couple reportedly feel that they’ve been “really unlucky” in their post-royal career efforts, citing Covid-19, economic downturns and the deaths of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II as external factors impacting their attempts.

UK’s Bella magazine reported earlier this month that Meghan is taking a “step away” from Brand Sussex to focus on solo projects.

The publication cited the unexpected blow of losing their Spotify deal as a factor in her decision to establish her own separate brand.

“Meghan feels she’ll have better success if she takes the time to work on projects alone without Harry – even though he always gives her his full support,” a source said.

The insider added that her recent decision to sign with Hollywood talent agency WME – which also represents Adele and Serena Williams – was about making her a “power player” in the industry in her own right.

Following the axing of her podcast Archetypes as part of the collapse of her Spotify deal, Meghan is reportedly now gearing up for a “string of commercial endorsements in fields meaningful to her, such as food, wellness, fashion and therapy”, reports the MailOnline.
