Joe Jonas is under fire from fans after he was said to have accused estranged wife, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner’s “partying” as the reason behind their split.

Joe Jonas is facing backlash on social media after he filed for divorce from Game of Thrones star, Sophie Turner, claiming her affinity for partying was to blame for the spilt.

“She likes to party; he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles,” a source close to the couple told TMZ.

Since the comments were released to the public, the singer has been trolled by online users claiming that Jonas is trying to make Turner look like a bad mother, reports the New York Post.

“Joe Jonas could have just quietly filed for divorce,” said one user on X, formerly Twitter. “But the over the top smear campaign plus the fact that he waited for her to be in the UK and leave the kids with him before he filed in the US just makes him look scummy.”

“The way they’ve tried to make him a martyr for just being a dad. No, we’re not doing that,” slammed a second user.

“This really gives off controlling vibes from Joe because he’s literally on tour but he’s divorcing her for partying,” quipped a disgusted user. “He did not marry a grandma who’ll just sit there & wait for him for crying out loud.”

One fan claimed the statement sounded like Jonas and his PR team were trying to “get ahead of something.”

“His team just keeps putting out stories about how he tried to save the marriage,” the fan wrote. “How she’s a big partier, and all these other stories while she hasn’t said a word.

“It’s like, these people are trying to get ahead of something,” added the user.

News that Jonas was seeking to end his four-year marriage to the UK native emerged over the weekend and was subsequently confirmed after he hired lawyer Tom Sasser, who famously handled Tiger Woods’ divorce, to represent him in the upcoming proceedings.

Jonas also claimed that he and Turner would like to share joint custody of the couple’s two children — three-year-old Willa and a one-year-old whose name they have yet to announce — despite the fact both children reside in Miami with their father.

Also stated in the couple’s ironclad prenup agreement, the Grammy nominee will “keep all of his royalties from the music” he’s made with his brothers, as well as his other band, DNCE.

Turner will also reportedly keep the money she made from Game of Thrones and “any residuals from her acting career.”

The pair will also “keep the rights to their image and likeness and businesses associated with their celebrity status.”

Jonas and Turner released a joint statement claiming their split was a “united decision.”

“After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” the estranged couple wrote in a post to Instagram. “There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”

SPLIT GETS UGLY

Earlier, TMZ reported “incriminating” footage of Turner was allegedly the catalyst for Jonas to file for divorce after four years of marriage.

Multiple sources close to the Jonas Brothers member told TMZ that he either overheard the Turner say something or saw her do something via a Ring camera that made him realise their marriage was over.

The New York Post reported that specific details of what was on the footage are not known.

However, in the days since the public first learned that the pair were headed for divorce, more information about the tensions in the estranged couple’s relationship came to light.

One source claimed to TMZ Tuesday that Turner’s alleged party-girl ways were a factor in the split.

“She likes to party; he likes to stay at home,” the insider claimed. “They have very different lifestyles.”

Recent photos and videos of Turner, 27, downing shots in the UK while Jonas, 34, was away on tour appeared to confirm this claim.

According to the New York Post, Jonas had been “unhappy” for some time and was doing everything possible to salvage the marriage.

“Divorce was a last resort for Joe. He never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his girls,” a source told the outlet.

“An unhappy home isn’t a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through it this year.”

“There’s a lot of noise out there, but it wasn’t a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back situation like it’s being reported,” the source said.

Jonas himself revealed in his divorce filing that his two daughters with Turner were living with him most of the time leading up to the split.

He also claimed in court documents that their marriage was “irretrievably broken”.

Turner and Jonas first married during an elopement in Las Vegas in May 2019. They then had a second wedding in France, which was attended by all of their close family and friends, including Nick Jonas, Kevin Jonas and Maisie Williams.

The divorce filing notes that Jonas and Turner signed a prenuptial agreement in April 2019 that reportedly allows the musician to “keep all of his royalties from the music,” while she owns “any residuals from her acting career”.

Jonas has hired powerhouse celebrity lawyer, Tom Sasser, who handled Tiger Woods’ divorce.
