Bachelor in Paradise: Timm Hanly slams show’s airtight contracts

Bachelor in Paradise star Timm Hanly has slammed the show’s airtight contracts, claiming the fine print allows for contestants to be exploited as he revealed he is glad the program is finally over.

Reality TV has a mental health problem

Bachelor in Paradise star Timm Hanly has slammed the show’s airtight contracts, which he says could make it difficult for his co-star Jamie Doran to successfully sue the network.

Doran has enlisted the help of high-powered lawyer Keith Redenbach of Redenbach Lee lawyers in his case against production company Warner Bros. International and broadcaster Channel 10 over his negative portrayal on the show.

Hanly told Confidential that the show exploited Doran and another co-star Ciarran Stott, who got the villain edit, with producers encouraging them to say and do controversial things to boost ratings.

“I don’t know how far [Jamie’s] going to get away with suing, the contracts are pretty tight. They’re pretty much allowed to do what they’ve done,” Hanly said.

“It was rubbish editing and it was all planned. It was uncomfortable to be there.

“They would encourage [Ciarran] to go after different girls. They stitched him up.

They tried to get me to do it, I’m lucky I didn’t. They don’t give a f**k about us.”

The show was filmed at a beachside resort in Fiji last year and Hanly claims there was nothing remotely enjoyable about his experience on the reality TV series.

“It wasn’t nice to be there, it wasn’t a nice holiday. It was f***ed,” he said.

“I wish I could tell you how I really left but I’m not allowed to.”

Confidential understands that contractual agreements are made between contestants and Warner Bros., not Channel 10.

In response to Doran considering legal action, a Network 10 spokeswoman said: “Network 10 has not received any papers regarding this claim.”

Confidential has also contacted Warner Bros for comment.

Melbourne fireproofer Hanly, who left the show with Brittany Hockley before they parted ways, is relieved the show is over following Sunday night’s finale and he is focused on moving on with his life.

He has launched a new clothing line called Front Runner with his girlfriend Briana De La Motte.

“I had a few bumps in the road on that show but I’m just glad it’s all over,” he said.

“I’ve had a girlfriend for the last few months and we’re doing Front Runner together. It was hard having a girlfriend and having that show on at the same time, she’s also glad it’s over and we can just live our lives now.

“I don’t have to worry about not posting her on Instagram.”

The clothing line is described as “’80s-inspired athleisure wear”, which Hanly designed himself.

“I’ve been working on it for about five months, I didn’t think it would go off but it has. I’ve got more than 5,000 people on my email list who want to buy it already. People love it,” he said.

“I’ve always loved fashion. My grandpa was a tailor, that’s where the inspiration came from. It’s unisex. Men struggle to get good athleisure wear, so now they have this option.”

Meanwhile, Sunday night’s finale ratings attracted 480,000 metro viewers, below rival Channel 7’s Farmer Wants a Wife (814,000) and Channel 9’s Ninja Warrior (1.09million).
