Baby bloomers make their mark

Some are barely out of nappies but these tots and teens are already stealing the limelight from their famous parents, making a name for themselves during lockdown without really trying.

David Warner dominates on TikTok

With absolutely nobody immune to the effects of the global pandemic — with schools shut, sport cancelled and machines such as Hollywood brought to a grinding halt — the past few months have allowed A-listers a chance to introduce the world to their offspring in ways we haven’t really seen before.

Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook have lit up over the past few months with the kids of the rich and famous taking centre stage, in the process not just winning over the millions of fans their parents have carefully cultivated over the years, but bringing on new ones of their own.

Many of them are so young they wouldn’t know a like from an unfollow, and they’re not trying to be famous. They’re just having fun and making a name for themselves in the process.

Here are just a few who have caught our eye recently:

BUDDY OLIVER

BUDDY Oliver has yet to crack double figures, but the Naked Chef’s son is already on the fast track to one day be the face of his dad’s vast empire of food endeavours. The cute-but-confident (but far from bratty) nine-year-old has slipped into Jamie’s Instagram — which has eight million followers — with a few recipes of his own. And he’s beating the celebrity chef at his own game. Buddy’s banana bread tutorial has been viewed more than one millions times, he cracked the 1.5 million mark for his barbecue chicken lollipops, and a masterclass on homemade pasta has been seen by more than two million fans.

WARNER-FALZON DAUGHTERS

AUSTRALIAN Test cricketer David Warner has amassed a huge following
on Tik Tok (he’s fast approaching five million followers), but a lot of that success on the popular social platform can be attributed to his two eldest daughters with retired ironwoman Candice Falzon, Ivy Mae and Indi Rae. Dozens of videos of the cute pair, who have convinced their batsman dad (or quite possibly the other way around) to dance with them, have been viewed tens of millions of times. Even Warner and Falzon’s youngest daughter Isla Rose, who turns one next week, gets in on the action sometimes. Ivy Mae and Indi Rae’s adorable dances and antics with their parents show these two have a solid future in entertainment. Mix that with the solid sports genes they’ve surely inherited and these girls have a bright future.

GRACING the cover of Vogue is something many in the fashion and entertainment industries can only ever dream of. Stormi Webster, Kylie Jenner’s daughter with rapper Travis Scott (real name Jacques Webster), has nailed it before she’s even hit three. The mother and daughter duo appear on the latest edition of the fashion bible’s Czech magazine and fans went wild for it. Due to strict restrictions in coronavirus hotspot LA, the pair had to do their “photo shoot” via an iPhone from the comfort of their $50 million compound. Stormi regularly features in her mum’s social media posts, a clear winner with her 182 million Instagram followers. She doesn’t know it yet, but she’ll soon be squaring off with her vast network of reality-relatives for most popular Kardsashian-Jenner.

FERDIA SHAW

ARTEMIS Fowl may have fallen … um … foul of the critics, but the Disney+ film’s lead Ferdia Shaw can expect to be catapulted into the limelight after his performance as the titular character. The 16-year-old is the grandson of Robert Shaw, the English actor who played shark hunter Quint in Jaws and King Henry VIII in A Man For All Seasons. This was a big debut for Shaw Jr and he’s latched onto it tightly, generating a legion of young fans and paving the way for a post-Covid career in Hollywood.

JUNIOR ANDRE

WITH almost 240,000 Instagram followers, the 15-year-old son of Mysterious Girl singer Peter Andre and model-cum-reality star Katie Price is starting to attract the same kind of attention as his famous parents, albeit without the scandal and controversy. Junior uses his growing platform to champion causes he feels strongly about — most recently the Black Lives Matter movement. From what he shares online, it’s obvious the youngster is very big on family, often posting pictures of him with his parents and siblings which get thousands of likes and comments from his followers. He’s also features in the YouTube series Life With The Andres, which sees dad Peter open up the doors to their beautiful mansion. The videos, which only launched last month, have been viewed hundreds of thousands of time. Back on Instagram, a recent post where Junior admits to “gyming a bit lately” accompanies a photo that shows he will soon have the kind of abs that made his perennially shirtless dad famous.

THE WINDSOR KIDS

IF there are any famous kids who have little choice but to be eternally in the spotlight, it’s Princes George, 6, and Louis, 2, and Princess Charlotte, 5, the three ridiculously photogenic children of future king Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge. The family has been a constant source of support for those suffering during the global pandemic and champions of front line workers who are putting their lives on the line in the ongoing battle to manage and contain it. George, Charlotte and Louis have played a big part in that, doing their bit in a video the royal couple shared in April of the family clapping in support — and all wearing blue — in support of health workers in the UK and helping out on food drops (inset). And millions loved the photos of Louis showing off his hands coloured in rainbow coloured paint, the huge smile on his face warming the hearts of royal fans across the globe. As the future of an institution reeling from the drama of Megxit and the Prince Andrew scandal, these three are helping breath life back into it without even really knowing it.

OLYMPIA WILLIAMS

STILL young enough to be blissfully unaware of social media, Serena Williams’ two-year-old daughter Olympia doesn’t even know she’s a star. A recent Instagram video of her dancing with her uber-talented mum to a song from Disney’s Beauty And The Beast — both dressed in Belle’s bright yellow ballgown — was watched a whopping three million times. And that’s not counting the millions more as the heartwarming video went viral. The pair dance around the lounge room having clearly just watched the movie, their popcorn boxes pushed aside. Olympia appears regularly on Williams’ pages and is a favourite of her followers. Another video from last month, viewed more than 2.4 million times, shows the pair in matching onesies doing their morning routine in the bathroom — the younger showing a, ease in front of the camera that belies her age.
