She made a name for herself as a child star on The Saddle Club, but one of the things that excited Aisha Dee most about her latest Aussie role was speaking in her own accent.

After a long stint acting and modelling overseas, Dee is back on home soil for the premiere of Apple Cider Vinegar, a highly anticipated series in which she plays the close friend who exposed fake cancer fraudster Belle Gibson.

Having had a taste of bringing an Australian story to life on the small screen, she’s keen to see more of them being beamed to viewers around the world.

“I love the idea of telling more stories here and being loud and myself,” Dee told The Daily Telegraph.

“Speaking in my own accent is really fun and kind of a novelty for me.

“I think we have so much talent here and so much creativity.

“It’s different than anywhere else in the world.”

The 31-year-old, who stars alongside Hollywood actor Kaitlyn Dever in the new series, still remembers when Gibson, a wellness influencer who claimed to have cured brain cancer with a healthy diet, was exposed as a con artist.

Dee found the script and her experience on set “really riveting.”

“It was hard to escape (the story),” she said.

“I remember hearing about it through group messages and was definitely very aware of the 60 Minutes interview and the pink turtleneck.”

Dee described the project as “extra special” because it also gave her the chance to work alongside long-time friend and fellow Aussie actor, Alycia Debnam-Carey.

“The story is something that I really care about and I got to work with someone who’s been my friend for a really long time,” she said.

Apple Cider Vinegar is set to premiere on Netflix on February 6.
