Aussie musician shows he’s not afraid to challenge stereotypes and push boundaries

Australian Idol singer Ripley Alexander is pushing boundaries and isn’t afraid to show off his tattoos and nail polish, all while he adjusts to his new-found fame.

Brisbane boy to music sensation, Ripley Alexander isn’t afraid to be “different”.

Starting as a bar singer and now a breakout star with his debut performance on Australian Idol 2024, Alexander is quickly making waves in the music scene while adjusting to his new-found fame.

The self-proclaimed “extroverted introvert,” enjoys a quiet night in, is breaking down stereotypes by flaunting his painted nails and pushing boundaries with his fashion and tattoos.

“I think it’s cool, I’m about to bleach my hair so I can put colours in it, and then match my nails, my hair and my shoes all together.

“My style is kind of a mash up of everything I see, I go for a new age Hugh Grant.”

While the rising star catches stares in his hometown, mostly for his nail polish and tattoos, he feels Sydney is more accepting where “no one really blinks an eye.”

After getting over 100 million views on TikTok from his ‘Mamma Mia’ performance on the singing contest, the 20-year-old’s career skyrocketed, and he is still getting used to it.

“I still feel like I’m just a bar singer until I come here in Sydney and people come up to me, it’s like what’s going on,” Alexander told Confidential.

“I was prepared to sing at bars until I was 25-30 but then all of this just blew up. It’s very strange but nice being recognised for talent and success, but I do get what Chappell Roan (American pop-singer) means, I get weirder out with strangers.”

With 2025 in full swing, the rising star promises “more shows, more music, and more Ripley.”

After the recent release of his new EP in December, he’s eager for what lies ahead.

“The new EP is just kind of about me, and like all of my relationships as a collective,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to what next year has to offer.”
