More than a decade after the scandal that made international headlines, a woman who says she had a romantic relationship with former Wallabies star Lote Tuqiri’s has unveiled new claims about their involvement.
In her newly-published memoir, Irish reality TV star and “Dr Botox” Danielle Meagher-Collins pulls back the curtain on her alleged relationship with Tuqiri, revealing intimate details about their encounters.
The alleged relationship was first revealed in 2013 by Dr Meagher-Collins, who claimed she and Tuqiri, became involved while he was in Ireland for a rugby tour the same year.
The 48-year-old wrote in her memoir, Diary of A Botox B---h, she felt the former NRL star had a “magnetic presence” when they crossed paths at nightclub.
“The truth was, I felt an instant chemistry with this man that I couldn’t explain,” Dr Meagher-Collins wrote.
The cosmetic clinician details memories of kissing the then 34-year-old in public multiple times and waking up to stare at him sleeping and being “completely mesmerised.”
As their brief relationship progressed, she claimed in the book Tuqiri told her he had “drifted apart” from the mother of his children and they had divorced.
“I decided to go straight to the point. ‘Are you married Lote?’” she wrote. “He looked me directly in the eyes, his expression sincere: ‘No Danielle I’m not’.” Meagher-Collins claims it wasn’t until she ran into her brothers, who recognised Tuqiri’s name, that things began to unravel.
“He’s married, you know … I saw him six weeks ago at Cinnamon Restaurant with his wife and two kids,” her brother explained.
Devastated, Meagher confronted Tuqiri who initially denied the allegations. She later claimed in the memoir it all fell apart when he admitted he was still a married man after her friends contacted Rebekka.
Tuqiri, who welcomed his third son with Rebekka a year and a half after the news of the alleged tryst, did not respond to requests for comment.
