FIVE stars from the forthcoming Australian premiere of 9 to 5 The Musical started celebrating Christmas early, recording their own Dolly Parton-inspired take on the traditional Jingle Bells song.

Marina Prior, Casey Donovan, Erin Clare, Caroline O’Connor and Eddie Perfect lead the cast as the smash-hit West End musical heads to Sydney and Brisbane next year.

But before the all-singing, all-dancing stage version, the quintet, directed by Daniel Edmonds, created a new arrangement of Jingle Bells with a country twang.

Prior said it was no surprise she loved Christmas, and she also loved Parton and her music.

“To sing a Dolly-inspired Jingle Bells in the lead up to Christmas was wonderful, and gets me in the mood for all the shopping and cooking I’ve got to do before my annual Christmas Eve tradition, singing at Carols By Candlelight,” she said.

O’Connor said singing along to Christmas carols always seemed to be a festive highlight.

“There is something incredibly special about Christmas time, when everyone makes a real effort to spread happiness and cheer,” she said.

The Australian premiere of 9 to 5 The Musical will open at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney on February 16 followed by a limited season at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC, Brisbane from May 22 with tickets now on sale.

The musical was inspired by the iconic 1980 blockbuster starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Parton and tells the story of three enterprising workmates pushed to the edge by their mean-spirited boss.
