Australian billionaire business magnate Mike Cannon-Brookes has become a household name among Australia’s elite, however news he has split with his wife of 13 years has meant the spotlight is now on his ex, newly single Annie.
When their wealth is divided, Annie Cannon-Brookes is set to walk away from the marriage with billions, and will secure herself a spot on the richest women in Australia list.
It comes as Australia’s richest couple, Twiggy and Nicola Forrest, decided to call it quits on their marriage of 31 years, also adding Nicola to the desirable list.
Off the back of last weekend’s story on the lucky Aussie women who have nabbed themselves a US billionaire, we take a look at the ladies – some self-made, others beneficiaries – who have billions in the bank, are single, and potentially ready to mingle.
Annie Cannon-Brookes
Annie is a former fashion designer who met her now-ex at a Qantas lounge during a trip between Sydney and San Francisco.
Fast-forward 13 years and she is one of the country’s most wealthy women.
It’s not just her ex-husband-to-be’s successful software company Atlassian, which has earned him billions, the couple also share an impressive property portfolio, including the 1.1ha Fairwater estate, previously the home of the late Lady Mary Fairfax, which they acquired in 2018 for a reported $100 million.
$1.2b Judith Neilson
The Zimbabwe-born former graphic designer is an art gallery proprietor, property investor, arts patron, and ex-wife of Australian funds manager Kerr Neilson.
$2.2b Gretel Packer
Gretel Packer, the elder sister of fellow billionaire James Packer, entered the billionaires club after James split their family estate 10 years after the death of their father, media mogul Kerry Packer.
Just like many of her fellow billionaires, Gretel Packer, who sits on the boards of the Art Gallery of NSW and the Sydney Theatre Company, is low-key and keeps a low profile in the interests of her three children, whom she encourages to shun the media spotlight (which hasn’t quite been adhered to by her eldest, Francesca Packer Barham).
$4.14b Hope Welker
The third child of Australian mining magnate Gina Rinehart.
Together with her three siblings, she is the beneficiary of a trust that owns a large stake in the Perth-based mining giant Hancock Prospecting.
$3.17b Heloise Pratt
It runs in the family for the Pratts. Heloise is the sister of fellow billionaires Anthony Pratt and Fiona Germinder.
The three siblings hold stakes in the family’s Visy packing business.
Eloise also founded Thorney Investments with her ex-husband.
$10b Nicola Forrest
Nicola earned the title of the second-richest woman in the country following news she had separated from her long-time husband Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest.
Some believe Nicola could be worth more than $10 billion.
$43.17b Gina Rinehart
Gina Rinehart needs no introduction and is a regular on the rich lists.
In her 69 years, she has only ever been linked to three men — her first husband Greg Hayward, her second was Frank Rinehart, and most recently Italian socialite Tony Bellia.
