Firerose accuses Billy Ray Cyrus of domestic abuse

Court documents give further insight into the ugly split involving Billy Ray Cyrus and his estranged Aussie wife, singer Firerose.

Less than a month after Billy Ray Cyrus filed for a divorce from his Aussie wife Johanna Rosie Hodges, she has accused him of allegations of domestic abuse.

Hodges, aka Firerose, filed a counter complaint in a Tennessee court on June 14 that claimed Cyrus, 62, has substance abuse issues that make him “unpredictable and volatile”.

She also claimed that the country music star filed for divorce just one day before she was set to undergo a preventative double mastectomy.

“Wife was the victim of extreme verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse,” Firerose’s attorneys wrote in the complaint, which was obtained by PEOPLE.

“Wife was subjected to Husband’s persistent drug use accompanied with the consumption of marijuana which made Husband unpredictable and volatile towards Wife.”

Cyrus filed for divorce from Firerose on May 22, just seven months after they got married.

According to TMZ, Cyrus chose to end their marriage due to both irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct”.

In her filings, Firerose also denied being guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, and instead said Cyrus was the one who’d acted inappropriately.

She also revealed in her complaint that she was diagnosed as a carrier of the BRCA1 gene mutation in 2020 and was told this past March that she should undergo a preventative double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery.

The Australian musician scheduled her surgery for May 24, 2024 — but alleged in the complaint that the weeks leading up to it were “chaos”.

She claimed that Cyrus “continuously launched verbal assaults” at her, and placed her “into an emotional and psychological prison.”

“When Wife would attempt to voice certain concerns, Husband would often call her a ‘selfish f---ing b---h’ and continually alleged that she was using him,” the complaint said.

“The accumulation of years of verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse, combined with the fact that Husband has had a direct hand in restricting Wife’s access to income and future opportunities, Wife has developed severe emotional distress from Husband’s actions,” the complaint read. “Wife has had to seek psychological treatment from her therapist for emergency sessions on more than one occasion.”

Firerose, 34, was born in Sydney and is a graduate of Newtown’s School for the Performing Arts.

She met Cyrus when she was just 22 after unsuccessfully auditioning for a role on Miley’s hit Disney show Hannah Montana – although romance did not spark until years later.

Their shock split comes just weeks after Cyrus shared a soppy social media post paying tribute to his wife.

On April 19, just the month before he filed divorce paperwork with the courts, Cyrus posted a sweet snap with Firerose to his Instagram account, their long hair reflecting the sunlight.

“So much to be grateful for,” he wrote.

Awkwardly, Cyrus released his new love song You Came Along eight days after filing for divorce.

“You came along. Now I know the love is real. I love you now and always will,” the song goes.

The former couple were also just recently promoting their new duet After the Storm.

Firerose, who is just three years older than Cyrus’ daughter Miley, seemed to be none the wiser there was trouble in paradise, posting an anniversary tribute to her soon-to-be-former husband on April 12.

“6 months ago I married this man, Life isn’t always easy … but it sure helps when your husband is also your best friend. Thank you Lord,” Firerose wrote.

When the couple got married in October, they shared a touching joint Instagram statement.

“It was the most beautiful, ethereal celebration of love we could have ever imagined.”

Rather than a traditional divorce, the paperwork shows Cyrus is instead pursuing an annulment.

The documents show Cyrus gave Firerose until just May 24 to vacate his Tennessee home, after which he provided her with $500 per night for 10 days in order to obtain emergency accommodation.

TMZ also notes he has agreed to pay her A$7500 a month for 90 days or until the marriage is dissolved to house her.

This is the third time Cyrus has been divorced.

His union to Cindy Smith in 1986 lasted just five years.

He was married to his pop star daughter Miley’s mother Tish for the longest stretch – from 1993 to 2002.

Neither Cyrus nor Firerose have commented on the split.

Cyrus, whose daughter Miley also married and divorced an Australian, has yet to publicly comment.

Miley was married to Liam Hemsworth, brother to Thor star Chris.

Despite trying to make the union last, the pair also ultimately called it quits.

However it was all for a good cause with fans speculating their relationship inspired her Grammy-winning hit Flowers.

Miley also dated Aussie singer Cody Simpson.
