The secret to HSC success is helping others.
That is the message from St Vincent’s College star student Stella Wailes, who got an ATAR 99.80.
“I think our whole cohort’s success was because we created a big collaborative learning culture, worked together and motivated each other rather than just on our own,” she said.
“We did some shared Google drives where we could put essays and notes for everyone to share and that was created by a girl in our year on her own initiative.”
The school jumped up the HSC rankings this year, climbing from 130 to 59th place in the Daily Telegraph’s analysis of HSC results.
College principal Anne Fry said this year teachers focused on giving lots of individualised feedback to students.
“The main emphasis has been on feedback, giving really good feedback to the girls, requiring them to reflect on that feedback and use that feedback to refine their next piece of work.”
She also instructed parents about their role along with teachers to instil academic resilience in students.
“For parents, that means not responding catastrophically when a child has not achieved a perfect result but seeing it as a continuous line of learning,” she said.
