HSC, ATAR results: Students learn their fate with university ranking
Boys have dominated the coveted top ATAR of 99.95 this year while girls had a higher median university ranking. More than 1000 students qualified for an ATAR than the previous year.

Boys have dominated the coveted spot of getting the top ATAR of 99.95 this year, taking out 30 of the 46 places.
There will be 16 girls finding out this afternoon that they got the very top ATAR of 99.95.
However this year girls got a higher median ATAR of 71.10, while the median ATAR for males was 68.05.

The number of students who qualified for an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank was 1096 fewer than the previous year, with 55,031 with a score that would get them into university.
Melanie Lawrie, Killarney Heights High School, started to cry when she opened her ATAR this afternoon.
“I am so happy, I got 94.35,” she said.
“I am going to study counselling and psychology unless I change.
“I was expecting like 80, I was hoping for a low 90 if possible, but never thought I would get 94.”
Abbotsleigh student Stella Leonardi got an ATAR of 99.70 — after yesterday topping the state in Music 2.
“I was very happy with it, I am very excited,” she said.
“I had no idea what to expect but it definitely came as a shock.”
“I am planning to study law and environmental sustainability at ANU.”
University Admissions Centre general manager, marketing and engagement,Kim Paino said there were other options for students who were disappointed.
“This doesn’t mean that every door is closed to you. Some doors may be closed for now but not forever and other opportunities are available to you right now.,” she said.
“Just keep an open mind and look at all your options.”
