HSC results 2019: Best performing schools in NSW revealed

Girls’ schools have ratcheted up the HSC ranking tables, improving their scores dramatically in the last year.
St Vincent’s College in Potts Point was the number one improving school, bouncing 11 per cent and climbing the rankings from 130 to 59.
Hornsby Girls also improved their ranking by 11 per cent, but jumped from eight to a hotly contested third place while Loreto Killibiri jumped from 39 last year to 18 this year.
The HSC performance ranking is calculated as the number of students who achieved a band six as a percentage of the number of students enrolled in the school.
North Shore school Abbotsleigh increased the proportion of high achievers from 11 to 12 per cent this year, with Stella Leonardi taking out first place in Music 2.
Academic powerhouse James Ruse Agricultural High School achieved first place for the 24th year in a row. It also had 226 students with top band marks in one or more subjects.
Conservatorium High School placed second, followed by North Sydney Boys High School, who went from second to third this year.
Sydney Grammar School dropped from three to four.
A number of high fee private schools also dropped in their rankings.
SCEGGS Redlands dropped from 75th place last year to 211.
Newington dropped from 98 to 176, Shore Grammar Dropped from 22 to 37 and The Kings’ School dropped from 41 to 62.
Knox Grammar School went from 23rd place to 22nd, a steady performance after a rocky year in which a swim coach was charged with possessing child sex abuse material.

In the top 20 schools, the state’s public schools managed to claim victory, taking out 11 of the top ranked schools, including Baulkham Hills High School and Northern Beaches Secondary College Manly Campus.
Other mentions include co-ed school Pittwater House on the Northern Beaches, which went from 197th last year to 85th.
While some schools will be sweating on the result of their ATAR this afternoon, at Narrabeen Sports High School principal Dane Ropa said 100 per cent of students who wanted to go to university had received early offers to university.
“They want to see that prospective students have these other skills and are already achieving in those areas” he said.

He said not having to wait for HSC results was less stressful and let students enjoy school.
Year 12 student Jaylin Rae has been offered a scholarship with Arizona University.
