Artarmon Public School’s principal, Louise Green, attributed the school’s achievement to the school’s “teachers working and learning together”.

“Our achievements in year five are a result of the commitment and expertise from teachers in all grades,” Ms Green said.

“All staff are fully committed to making a difference for students from kindergarten to year six and we all work collaboratively as a learning community to make that happen.”

Ms Green emphasised Artarmon Public School’s holistic approach to learning, which gives equal importance to subjects like music.

“The development of the whole child is critical in each child achieving success. Research clearly indicates that music participation … results in academic achievement and a deeper engagement in school,” she said.

While Artarmon Public School will use these results to reflect on academic growth and plan for future learning goals, Ms Green said NAPLAN remained “only a snapshot” for measuring achievement.

“As a school we focus on quality teaching and learning opportunities for all students and if we do this successfully it will be seen in NAPLAN results … What we do each day is the most important thing for students,” she said.
