The schools with Sydney City and Eastern Suburbs’s best resourced classrooms have been revealed.
An analysis of national data from the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority has revealed the schools where teachers have the most students to teach.
The figures show in 2018 in the Sydney City and Eastern Suburbs region there were more students per teacher at Bronte Public School than any other school.
According to the data, the most up to data that includes all state and private schools nationally, Bronte Public had 22.3 students for every teacher, the highest in the area.
The second highest student-teacher ratios were at Coogee Public School where there was an average of 21.9 students for every teacher at the school.
At Woollahra Public School there were 20.9 students for every teacher, the Sydney City and Eastern Suburbs region’s third highest.
In contrast there was one teacher for every 2.8 students at Central Sydney Intensive English High School, the region’s lowest ratio of students per teacher.
The second lowest ratio was at Sydney Distance Education High School where there were 3.3 students per teacher.
The figures show at Wairoa School there were 4 students per teacher, the third lowest ratio in the Sydney City and Eastern Suburbs region.
According to ACARA the national student-teacher ratio was 13.5 students for every teacher.
Across the country independent private schools had the lowest student to teacher ratios with 11.7 students to every teacher.
Government schools had an average of 13.8 students for every teacher while Catholic schools had an average of 14 students for every teacher.
Student-teacher ratios do not take into account teacher aides or non-teaching staff at schools, only the full-time equivalent teachers.
The development of Sydney’s new Inner City High School will provide some relief and another option for parents, with 180 students set to start the inaugural Year 7 class in 2020.
First enrolments are currently being processed, a NSW Department of Education spokesman said, with students living within the Cleveland St school’s boundary to be given first priority.
However, controversy has surrounded the drawing of its catchment area, which stretches as far as Woollahra and Double Bay but excludes neighbouring suburbs such as Darlington, Zetland and Waterloo.
It is expected the 14-storey school will take about 1200 students when its staged opening is complete in 2021.
