NSW Covid: Two unvaccinated men in 30s, 40s die of Covid

Two unvaccinated men aged in their 30s and 40s have died from Covid in NSW overnight, as the state records 216 new cases.

A man in his 30s and another in his 40s have been revealed among the latest Covid fatalities in NSW.

The first man, from south west Sydney, was unvaccinated and had pre-existing health conditions. He died at Royal Prince Alfred hospital overnight.

The second man, aged in his 40s and also from southwestern Sydney, had no health conditions but was unvaccinated. He died at Liverpool Hospital.

Another man in his 80s died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. he had received one Covid vaccine dose but had underlying health conditions.

The three fatalities take NSW’s Covid death toll to 607.

It comes as a cluster of Covid cases has broken out across three Sydney gyms in the popular fitness chain Barry’s Bootcamp.

Eleven confirmed virus cases have been traced back to Barry’s at Kings Cross, Surry Hills and Martin Place.

Gym-goers who attended classes between October 30 and November 4 are being contacted by health officials and being given instructions on testing and isolation requirements, according to a spokesman from South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.

The spokesman said clients who went to classes over the six days but hadn’t been contacted by NSW Health should still monitor for symptoms.

“If you develop symptoms of COVID-19 you must immediately get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result,” the SESLHD spokesman said.

It comes as NSW recorded 216 new Covid cases on Wednesday and three more people died from the virus.

About 94 per cent of people aged over 16 have had one dose of a Covid vaccine, while 90.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

An email from Barry’s to its members said the cases had been discovered in the past week across various fitness classes.

“Barry’s has been advised by NSW Health that individuals who have visited Barry’s studios in NSW last week have subsequently tested positive for COVID-19,” a statement to clients read.

“Please be assured, we are following all requests and guidelines from NSW Health in relation to this matter, including providing details of clients, visitors and staff in attendance at the time of exposure.”

Barry’s Bootcamp locations affected by the exposure will remain open with strict cleaning and safety measures “as per guidance from NSW Health”, the email said.

“Barry’s is fully complying with the government’s Covid-Safe rules for gyms and our studios are regularly inspected by government health authorities as part of the Covid-Safe framework”.

“All of these inspections have found Barry’s to be compliant with Covid-Safe regulations.”

It comes as an outbreak at nearby City Gym Darlinghurst last month has risen to 19 confirmed cases.
