One time Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce had a two word warning for attendees at his weekend wedding to former staffer and journalist Vikki Campion.
He reportedly told guests to refrain from “punching on” because they might get snapped by the media pack camped outside the venue in Woolbrook, near Walcha in northeast New South Wales.
Mr Joyce, 56, and new wife, Ms Campion, 38, were married on Sunday at what they referred to as a “bush bash” wedding on the former National Party leader’s family estate.
The pair were pictured wearing Akubra hats at the shindig which came five years after their relationship began.
Mr Joyce resigned as the leader of the Nationals, therefore losing the Deputy PM role, after the affair was exposed in 2018.
The celebration was reportedly pink and ivory themed, with the once-low key event swelling to more than 80 guests.
The Joyce’s two sons Sebastian, 5, and Thomas, 4, were both page boys at the ceremony, and wore matching chinos and navy waistcoats.
None of Mr Joyce’s three daughters, from his previous 24-year marriage to Natalie Abberfield, Julia, Caroline, Odette or Bridgette, attended the wedding.
Daughter Julia Joyce last month responded to her father’s outback wedding plans in an Instagram video in which she donned a vintage wedding dress.
“Getting ready to crash my dad’s wedding I didn’t get invited to … in my Mum’s wedding dress,” she wrote in the video on her story.
Ms Abberfield also stayed away, but she told news.com.au that she wished “the happy couple all the best”.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, one guest said it was a “very touching ceremony at a place on the property that had special meaning to Barnaby”.
“Afterwards it was back to the Woolbrook hall for a food and drink that was very country, just like a bachelor and spinster ball,” they said.
Mr Joyce’s new father-in-law Peter Campion said the groom had warned guests at the reception that if they “punched on” the paparazzi would be there to catch any bad behaviour.
Mr Campion told the Daily Mail the warning was heeded: “A lot of champagne was drunk but no-one got s***faced”.
Billed as a return to “country style”, guests arrived in 4x4s, with many of the cars parked next to the aisle.
A number of high profile guests were also seen to be in attendance at the event, including Nationals MP George Christensen.
