Miranda Live: Wrong priorities cost Liberals the Wagga seat, says Luke Foley
WRONG priorities including “Sydney-centric” infrastructure plans cost the Liberal Party the state seat of Wagga Wagga according to Opposition Leader Luke Foley. Listen to the podcast with Miranda Devine.
AS the state Liberal Party licks its wounds over a disastrous by-election result in Wagga Wagga, Labor leader Luke Foley is taking the positives from a big weekend in the Riverina.
LUKE FOLEY ON MIRANDA LIVE:
The seat of Wagga Wagga is set to fall to independent Joe McGirr and out of Liberal hands for the first time since 1957.
The Labor Party suffered a four per cent swing, but that has paled in comparison to an expected 29 per cent swing against the Coalition.
Mr Foley told Miranda Live he was pleased with the result, “No one expected Labor to win Wagga,” he said.

“We’ve come along way, I never thought for a minute we’d be picking up Wagga, but it’s an astonishment achievement for the Liberals to finish third in a seat they’ve held safely for 61 years”.
Mr Foley said the public discontent for the federal Liberal Party wasn’t entirely to blame for the government’s loss and Premier Gladys Berejiklian and her colleagues should start prioritising country issues.
“I think the government is seen as very Sydney-centric and a lot of the big infrastructure projects that Ms Berejiklian and her colleagues boast about, really mean nothing to the every day lives of so many people across the state.”
