Bikie links to double murder in quiet street

A MAN gunned down in a suburban driveway was a known drug ''cook'' for bikie gangs.

A MAN gunned down in a suburban driveway was a known drug "cook" for bikie gangs.

Roy Yaghi, 33, was reportedly in his Toyota Hilux with friend Jamie Grover, 27, when a car with its lights off pulled over in Boronia St, Wentworthville, on Thursday night.

A gunman got out and approached the passenger side of the ute before firing at least five shots through the window, hitting one of the men in the neck.

Yaghi attempted to drive away but lost consciousness and crashed into a car parked in the front yard of a neighbouring house. Both men died later at Westmead Hospital.

Local resident Lyn Wilson said: "I saw a car drive up the street very slowly with its lights off. Then I heard the shots go bang, bang, bang - very evenly spaced. At first I thought they were firecrackers but it wasn't until I heard the helicopters flying above that I realised it was more serious."

While police suspect Grover, a father of one from Mooney Mooney, was an accidental victim of the hit, sources were not surprised Yaghi, from Constitution Hill, met a violent end.

His cousin Mohomed is a former police officer jailed for dealing heroin and cocaine. His Bankstown home was sprayed with bullets earlier this year.

Yaghi spent two years in jail for drug manufacturing before being released in 2008, when he went straight back to making drugs. Two years later he was "knee-capped".

Once linked to the Notorious gang, his latest known association was with the Lone Wolf bikie gang.

"These murders were the result of a targeted hit," Deputy Police Commissioner Nick Kaldas said.

"Both men were known to police and the shooting is linked to their criminal activity."

The killer is still on the loose.

While Yaghi was a known criminal with a long list of drug and firearms offences, Grover's crimes were limited but police intelligence reports said he had been mixing with some "very dangerous people".

Yesterday, as Yaghi's friends went to the murder scene, his nephew Luke posted a tribute on Facebook.

"R.I.P Roy Yaghi. You'll never be forgotten brother and you'll always have a place in my heart.

"I know you're in a better place now watching over us. I love and miss ya uncle Roy.

"Now to the dogs that shot him, I'll catch you gronks on this side or the other! Eye for an eye you weak dogs, I'll see yous soon!"

Yaghi and Grover became mates in the past year because of their shared passion for drag racing.

Yaghi's pride and joy was his high-performance Mazda RX3 which he raced regularly.

Joe Signorelli, whose company built the vehicle, said he had met Yaghi through racing, describing him as "a nice guy who just loved racing", adding he and Grover were often at the races together.

family created a disturbance at Westmead Hospital while the two men were being operated on - clashing with doctors and nurses before police intervened.
