Three teens in custody after ride share car theft

Three teenage boys have been charged after they allegedly assaulted a ride share driver and stole his car.

Three teenagers have been arrested and charged after they allegedly assaulted a ride share operator before stealing his car.

Three boys, two aged 17 and one 16, are in police custody after the incident occurred in Coomera around 11.10pm and later a crash in Ormeau.

Police will allege the 31-year-old driver was returning to his car at a service station when the three men assaulted him and stole his car.

He was not seriously hurt in the robbery.

At 11.30pm the Toyota Camry was involved in a crash on the M1 at Ormeau, and is alleged to have been in company with a stolen Hyundai Kona which caused the crash after clipping a car before rolling.

The Kona was then hit by an oncoming Hyundai I20 which was not stolen.

Police took the three occupants of the car into custody after they were found sitting in the car near the site of the crash.

Two occupants of the Hyundai I20, a 17-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.

Investigations are ongoing.

The three boys have been charged with child under 18 unlawful use of a motor vehicle and will appear at Southport Children’s Court at a later date.
