Thousands of hospital staff to strike over safety ‘crisis’

A paramedic has been robbed of drugs at knifepoint after being flagged down on the Gold Coast.

The incident happened on Mudgeeraba Rd, Worongary, just before midnight last night.

The advanced care paramedic had been returning to an ambulance station when he stopped to help a person who appeared to need medical treatment.

A QAS spokeswoman said a second person, armed with a knife, appeared as the paramedic was taking medical equipment out of the ambulance.

The knife-wielding man took a quantity of schedule 8 (S8) medications before fleeing the scene.

S8 medicines, such as include codeine, ketamine and morphine, are highly controlled due to their high potential for abuse and addiction.

It was not revealed what type were taken from the ambulance.

The paramedic was being provided support by both the Queensland Ambulance Service and the Queensland Police Service as investigations continue.

Information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
