A Macleay Island teenager will face court this morning, charged by police over the alleged daylight stabbing of a stranger on the Gold Coast.
The 18-year-old is alleged to have stabbed a 31-year-old Pimpama man just after 5pm Sunday, moments after the men had a verbal altercation.
Police claim that after an argument at a Southport shopping centre - which T he Courier-Mail understands to be Australia Fair Metro - one of the men moved away, before the teen is alleged to have located the 31-year-old.
The Pimpama man was stabbed in the back, allegedly by the teen, before he was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It’s understood paramedics from the Queensland Ambulance Service happened to be passing by the incident when they were able to stop and render immediate medical assistance to the man.
Critical care paramedics and the High Acuity Response Unit were later called to the Scarborough St centre.
The Macleay Island man was arrested by police soon after the incident and charged with wounding, going armed so as to cause fear, unlawful possession of a knife in a public place and enter premises and commit an indictable offence.
He was yesterday denied police bail and remains in custody to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court this morning.
