Two people were killed in separate crashes on Queensland roads on Tuesday.

A Goondiwindi man, 44, died after a truck and Nissan carrying a caravan collided on the Leichhardt Highway.

The incident occurred about 9.10am on a bridge between Wandoan and Taroom on the Western Downs.

The truck began overtaking the ute when the two vehicles collided and crashed off the roadway, police said in a statement.

The driver and sole occupant of the ute was initially trapped and died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, 29, sustained a leg injury and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The highway was closed between Wandoan and Taroom on the Western Downs for several hours.

Later in the day, a 50-year-old man from Lowood died at the scene of a crash at Marburg, in the Ipswich region, after his vehicle was found down an embankment about 1pm.

A witness sounded the alarm just before 1pm, noticing the sedan had crashed down an embankment and into a tree near the intersection of Marburg Rd and Steinhardts Rd, Marburg.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was trapped inside.

Acting Inspector Donna Stewart said police were on scene within a few minutes, but nothing could be done to save the man’s life.

“Investigations into the cause of the crash are under way with Forensic Crash Unit,” Insp Stewart said.

“They are looking at speed as possible factor.”

The road was closed for several hours.

Police are investigating both crashes.
