Group of teens charged after stolen car joy ride goes wrong

A group of teenagers, including one aged only 13, have been charged by police after allegedly rolling a stolen 4WD on the Gold Coast in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A group of juveniles have been taken into police custody after the stolen car they were allegedly driving crashed on the Gold Coast early this morning.

According to police the group of six teenagers, one as young as 13, were travelling in a four-wheel-drive through Burleigh Heads when the car collided with traffic signs and rolled at the Pacific Mwy Burleigh Heads off ramp linking to Tsipura Drive around 2.15am.

All six of the teens fled the vehicle, before police located the group shortly afterwards.

Three boys, two aged 14 and another aged 15, and three girls, aged 13, 14 and 15 were taken into police custody.

Two teens - one girl and one boy, were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment for minor injuries, while a 14 and 15-year old boy, and a 13 and 14-year-old girl have been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The incident comes two boys aged 16 and 17 were charged with stealing a Mercedes Benz and Ford Mustang from the Gold Coast on Monday and just three months after four Townsville teens - Lucius Baira-Hill, 13, Aaliyah Tappa Brown, 17, Rayveena Coolwell, 15, and Cayenne Nona, 14 – died after the stolen car they were travelling in crashed into a light pole in north Queensland.
