A whopping 215 charges have been levelled at almost 40 people arrested on Friday in relation to an alleged drug trafficking operation in Brisbane.
More than $272,000 worth of drugs and cash were seized, according to Queensland Police, the culmination of a six-month operation dubbed ‘Sierra Gypsy’ which sought to unravel a “sophisticated” criminal operation.
The investigation centred around a cocaine trafficking network in Fortitude Valley, and saw 37 people taken into police custody on Friday.
Five men, aged between 25 and 28 years, will face court on Saturday after being charged with a string of serious offences, including dangerous drug trafficking and a number of other drug-related offences.
City Valley Crime Group Detective Inspector Glen Farmer labelled the operation as a major win for Queensland Police in battling drug trafficking.
“The seizure of these harmful drugs, along with the arrest of these men, has led to the operation being a success and the community being a safer place,” Det. Inspector Farmer said.
