A teen allegedly attacked a man with an axe outside a Brisbane supermarket after what’s understood to be a road-rage type incident involving his mum and the random man.
The 14-year-old boy allegedly struck the 62-year-old man on the head during an argument outside the Bracken Ridge Woolworths about 9pm Friday.
It’s understood the incident was sparked after the man approached the teen while his mum was inside the shopping centre to confront him over the woman’s driving.
Upon hearing the verbal altercation outside the shopping complex, the woman returned to the carpark, where according to a police statement, the trio entered into a verbal altercation.
The boy is accused of pulling a small axe from the car, which he later allegedly used to strike the man over the head.
“A verbal altercation took place between three people … before the 62-year-old man sustained facial injuries after being stuck with an implement,” A Queensland Police Service statement said.
The teen was charged with an act intended to cause grievous bodily harm after he handed himself into police about half an hour after the incident took place, while the man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with facial and neck injuries.
The boy was remanded in custody and is scheduled to front Children’s Court next week.
Investigations continue.
