A woman who filmed dramatic footage of a fatal house fire at Kilcoy northwest of Brisbane had no idea her colleague was inside the home at the time, it has been revealed.
Police are yet to formally identify the man and woman found dead inside the rubble of the house on Golf Links Drive on Saturday afternoon, and investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
Neighbours have told The Courier-Mail the woman, a Taiwanese national, had only moved into the house one week earlier and was working at Kilcoy Global Foods Group.
It is understood the property was a share house.
Kilcoy resident Michael McMillan said he and his wife had both been rostered to work a shift with the woman at the abattoir that afternoon when they heard strange noises.
“We were watching TV and just heard some weird banging noises, we thought the neighbours must be shifting timber,” he said.
When they looked outside they saw flames engulfing the house and called Triple-0.
Mr McMillan’s wife Feb filmed the blaze and was only told the next day that her colleague had been inside.
“It’s definitely not a very nice thing to happen in a small town,” Mr McMillan said.
Mr McMillan said his work had offered counselling to anyone who knew the woman.
Emergency crews were called to the house about 2.20pm on Saturday, where they found the first deceased body in the destroyed house.
Investigators located a second body late on Sunday afternoon and it is believed a dog, a staffy named Odin, also perished in the blaze.
His owner, who also lived at the home, paid tribute to his much-loved pet.
“Anyone that met Odie fell in love with him,” he said.
“He had such a gentle soul and heart of gold. Odie always wanted to be friends with everyone. He will be dearly missed by his mum and dad.”
On Sunday, police said they did not believe the man and woman were related and there was no indication it was a domestic violence related incident.
“We are still confirming the identity of those people… (they) appear not to be related,” Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Green said.
“There are others who live at the residence but they were not home at the time of the incident.”
Investigations are continuing and anyone with information if urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1880 333 000.
