Police have made contact with a woman who broke out of hotel quarantine on the Gold Coast but say she’s refusing to give herself up.
The state’s top Covid cop has also revealed he’s ordered a report into the circumstances surrounding Jessica Lee Heath’s escape.
Heath, 24, fled the Sofitel Hotel at Broadbeach on Wednesday two days after being placed in quarantine.
Police say she forced open a locked balcony door to escape.
She had faced Southport Magistrates Court on Monday on a string of charges including drug offences and driving while disqualified, and was given bail to go into quarantine.
Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said Heath was still on the run but police had managed to speak with her.
“We have been in contact with her, she has chosen not to co-operate with us, we’ll continue to try and track her,’ he said.
“We’re putting a lot of resources in to locate this person and I’m very confident we will soon.
At this stage, we’re not concerned because she has tested negative (for Covid-19), but we want to be absolutely certain.”
Mr Gollschewski said he had asked for a report on her escape.
“The whole circumstances of that are under an independent review that I’ve requested,’ he said.
