Just months after saying he could “live his life again” after being found not guilty of a violent assault, Queensland’s Wade Sangwell has been killed in a horror crash.

Mr Sangwell, 32, from Mungar on the Fraser Coast, was killed when a truck and a car collided on the Scenic Highway at Rosslyn on Friday.

He died at the scene after sustaining critical injuries.

Another man, who is understood to be in his 40s, was flown to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition with chest and abdominal injuries.

Another man and woman were taken to Yeppoon Hospital, both in stable conditions.

In May, Mr Sangwell was found not guilty by a jury when he faced Maryborough District Court charged with grievous bodily harm.

The charge related to an incident in Tiaro’s Petrie Park on July 8, 2020, in which another man was left with a traumatic brain injury.

During the trial, Mr Sangwell said he had acted in self-defence that night.

After the verdict, Mr Sangwell’s father spoke briefly outside the courthouse.

“It should never have got this far,” he said, adding the family had endured “two years of hell”.

Mr Sangwell posted on Facebook in the wake of the trial, saying it was “a great feeling to be a free man” and that it was great that the truth had come out.

“I can now move forward and live my life again,” he wrote.

Mr Sangwell’s friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to their mate.

Tony Heidenreich said words could not explain how he was feeling, but Mr Sangwell was forever in his heart.

“Condolences to the Sangwell family,” he wrote.

Allan Lowrey simply wrote “RIP Wade Sangwell”.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward.
