A man believed to have been murdered inside his own home had only weeks ago been released from prison, it has been revealed.
Avzi Ejupi, 48, was earlier this week found dead inside his Logan home after suffering significant injuries to his head.
Police today would not reveal the cause of Mr Ejupi’s death, however confirmed it was being treated as a suspected murder, with homicide detectives now involved.
Queensland police were called to the Augustus St, Kingston address at about 6.15pm on Sunday after someone living in the unit complex located Mr Ejupi in the garage.
It’s unknown how many people lived with Mr Ejupi, however police said a number of his housemates are assisting detectives with their investigation.
A 35-year-old man was earlier this week being questioned by police, however no charges were laid against that man, with police yet to determine if he had any involvement in Mr Ejupi’s death.
When asked about the significance of that man to the homicide investigation, Logan District Queensland Police Detective Acting Inspector Daniel Cunningham said investigators were keeping an open mind in relation to any potential persons of interest.
“Investigations are ongoing in relation to the persons that may be responsible and we’re keeping an open mind,” Insp Cunningham said.
“We’ve spoken to a number of people including the roommates, and the roommates have been assisting police during the course of this week.”
Mr Ejupi had a troubled past, and had only been released from jail on April 30 – just two weeks before his suspected murder.
He struggled with substance abuse and had spent time behind bars for theft and violence-related offending.
Insp Cunningham said the focus for detectives will now turn to the comings and goings of cars and pedestrians along Augustus St between the hours of 10pm Saturday, May 14, and 6pm Sunday, May 15.
“We are trying to get a better understanding of who is travelling on that street, in particular we would like to know if there was anybody walking along that street …” Insp Cunningham said.
“It’s an investigation that is obviously quite serious in nature and we want to make sure that we put all of our efforts towards it and solve it and make sure we can bring some resolution to his family.”
